Museum of Art Mazatlan

Located in Old Mazatlan (Centro), Museum of Art Mazatlan, previously named ‘House of Culture’. The Museum of Art Mazatlan has played a key role in the consolidation and dissemination of public artistic heritage through its collection of modern and contemporary Mexican art. Likewise, through the proposals of both the artists as those of the curators, the Art Museum has helped to define and strengthen-or otherwise to question-both historical discourses visual identity, as outlined, inclusively contemplative and always thoughtful, the national artistic scene today.

Museum of Art Mazatlan will be perceived – from the rescue mission native-like space of greater intellectual prestige in the art scene in Mexico. Its mission is to make this institution the legitimating center not only of the recent history of Mexican art but the repository of a critical tradition of historical questions and ongoing research on modern and contemporary creation in Mexico.

Museum of Art Mazatlan is committed to be a public space that offers visitors an individual and transcendent experience.

Management seeks to go beyond the idea of Museum of Art Mazatlan as showcase heritage and reinforce its perception as a promoter of cultural experiences and cultural center services. This, through current museo-logical narrative and an active interdisciplinary public program.

Overall Experience

Small Museum, part of self walking tour. Free admission. Some interesting paintings. Good place to rest and use restrooms. More of a small gallery than a true art museum. Nice place to see some paintings and get some rest.
